Concrete Footings Sydney
Structural foundations poured to AS 2870 by licensed Sydney concreters
Footings are the most structurally critical concrete work on any building project — they transfer the entire load of the structure into the ground. Getting them wrong means cracked walls, sticking doors, and expensive remediation years down the track. Getting them right means a building that performs for its full design life.

Dominate Concrete installs residential and light commercial footings across Sydney Metro, working alongside your structural engineer, building certifier, and frame contractor. We pour to the engineer's specified dimensions, use N32 concrete as standard for all structural footings, and provide concrete delivery dockets and pour certificates on request.
Sydney's diverse soil conditions — from sandstone in the east and north to reactive clay in the west — mean that footing design varies significantly across the Metro. We're experienced in the full range of footing types used across Sydney and can advise on what the conditions at your site will require.

Every project is different — we match the right specification to your needs and budget.
Strip Footings
Continuous concrete beam footings running beneath load-bearing walls. The standard footing type for brick veneer and double-brick homes in Sydney. Depth and width specified by engineer.
Quoted per linear metre based on engineer designPier & Beam Footings
Concrete piers drilled to stable soil or rock, with concrete beams spanning between piers. Used on sloping blocks, areas with poor surface soils, and elevated timber floor construction.
Quoted per pier and beam lengthPad Footings
Isolated square or rectangular concrete pads supporting point loads — columns, steel posts, pergola footings, and decks. Depth determined by soil bearing capacity.
From $350 per pad (varies by size and depth)Raft Slab
A combined footing and slab in one — the edges are thickened to act as the footing, with the internal slab bearing the floor load. Common on reactive clay soils in Western and South-Western Sydney.
Quoted per m² based on engineer designRetaining Wall Footings
Continuous strip or pad footings for concrete or masonry retaining walls. Critical for wall stability — depth and width determined by wall height and retained soil load.
Quoted per linear metre of wallOur Footings Process
What to expect from the first call to finished product.
Review of engineer's design — we review the structural drawings and footing schedule before quoting to confirm access, concrete volumes, and any pump requirements
Excavation — trenches or holes are excavated to the specified depth; base inspected for bearing capacity before reinforcement is placed
Reinforcement placement — rebar placed to the engineer's schedule; starter bars installed for wall or column connections
Inspection and approval — in most cases the certifier or engineer will inspect the excavation and reinforcement before pour
Pour and cure — N32 concrete placed by chute or pump, consolidated with vibrator, and finished level; curing compound applied and protected

Footings — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from Sydney homeowners and builders.
Do I need a structural engineer for concrete footings in Sydney?
For most new residential construction in NSW, yes — footings must be designed by a structural engineer and approved by a building certifier. For minor structures (sheds, small pergolas, carports) under a certain size, the engineer's requirement may be waived. We work alongside your certifier and engineer throughout the process.
What concrete grade is used for footings?
N32 is the standard concrete grade for structural footings in residential construction. It meets the minimum compressive strength requirements of AS 2870 and provides adequate durability for below-ground applications in Sydney's soil conditions. Some engineers specify N40 for commercial applications or aggressive soil environments.
How deep do footings need to be in Sydney?
Footing depth depends on your soil classification (from AS 2870) and the engineer's design. In Class S (stable) soils typical of Sydney's north and east, strip footings typically go to 450mm depth. In reactive Class M, H, or E clay soils found in Western Sydney, footings may need to go to 600–900mm or deeper to reach stable soil.
How long do concrete footings take to cure before building can start?
Most building certifiers and frame contractors require footings to reach minimum compressive strength before loading — typically 7 days for N32 concrete, though the certifier may specify a longer period. We provide delivery dockets showing concrete grade and pour date, and can arrange a 7-day break test if required.
Can you do both the footings and the slab?
Yes — we typically quote and complete both the footings and the floor slab as a single scope of work. This is more efficient and ensures the two elements are properly coordinated in terms of level, reinforcement continuity, and scheduling.

Concrete Slabs Sydney
A concrete slab is the foundation of nearly every Sydney construction project — from a backyard shed to a new house. Getting the slab right means getting the grade, reinforcement, thickness, and subgrade preparation correct from the start. Cut corners here and you're fixing cracks and movement for years.
Learn more →Concrete Retaining Walls Sydney
A concrete retaining wall needs to do one job extremely well: hold back the weight of retained soil without moving. When it fails — and failing retaining walls are common across Sydney's hilly terrain — the consequences range from a slumping garden bed to a structural emergency affecting neighbouring properties.
Learn more →Shed Base Concrete Sydney
A concrete shed base is one of the most straightforward concrete jobs on a residential property — but it still needs to be done right. An unlevel base causes the shed frame to rack and twist, doors that won't close, and water pooling inside. A slab without a moisture barrier causes rust on tools and fittings, and eventual structural deterioration of the shed floor framing.
Learn more →Concrete Driveways Sydney
A properly laid concrete driveway is one of the highest-return upgrades you can make to a Sydney home. Unlike pavers, which shift and weed over time, or asphalt, which softens in summer heat, a concrete driveway is structural, permanent, and low-maintenance for decades.
